Did your GP prescribe hypoallergenic formula before a dietitian referral?

I’m trialling cutting out dairy for suspected cmpa. I combi feed so went to drs to get the hypoallergenic formula. He referred me to a dietician and said he can’t prescribe it, it needs to come from them. So I have had to put the combi feeding on pause which makes me nervous as my first refused the bottle after 6 weeks as I didn’t keep up with it. I don’t produce enough milk to pump regularly (plus I hate it!) question is, did other people have to wait for dietician referral to come through or did their gp sign the prescription? Wondering if I should make another appointment and tell them I need the formula now…

GP signed on a trial. Reluctant for months. Dietitian app on NHS came through and it was a group session (my first DC was a 1-1 app so for second DC pretty useless)

I went private and paid for a consult with The Happy Feeding Company (Specialist Paediatric Dietitian) who wrote a letter to my gp of what milk to prescribe etc.

If baby is reacting to dairy in bm, you need to skip the first few offered formulas and go to an extensively broken down or removed formula such as Neocate, etc.

I also threatened to give up bf as they refused to prescribe initially and I said I needed a back up (supply dipped a few times) I took the prescription but didn't use it for a while. They were somehow against combo feeding!

I’ve just seen I can buy neocate from Lloyds pharmacy. While I’m waiting I might just go ahead and buy a tin. I’m only doing one bottle a day so should last a while. At least then I can see if it is actually cmpa!
