Do you consider child maintenance to cover school uniforms too?

My DC father sees her once EOW and once in the week and he pays me £200 a month to support her. We agreed this privately, because… well… we could.
This school year, we decided to put too toward the school uniform as she goes to school from his on the Monday that she stays there and on the week day she stays. It was annoying last year because she is with me so much more and certain things were left at his of “mine” (mine were better quality things). Also, I was buying all the school shoes, PE trainers, wellingtons to get too and from school in the rain, rain coats, school coats, school bags etc.
I wondered (not that he has raised the issue) is the maintenance for children expected to cover the school uniforms?

Morally no it should be to cover uniform but Legally yes it is.
though do check if you’re entitled to more or less via cms before you speak to him

I don’t know how much he earns. He does cash in hand too so he doesn’t claim it

I had a quick look and if he earnt minimum wage and did 38 hours a week he’d still owe £250 a month (assuming no other kids) so it could be worth looking into or maybe re discussing the amount, maybe ask him to increase the monthly amount now she’s getting older as she needs more stuff

Oh really! I didn’t know that. Yes she definitely does need more things as the money is still quite a struggle in honesty. Thank you so much I’m looking into this now (he does have one new born though)

It does but not if they require uniform at his house, as he gets a reduction in maintenance for his nights to provide what they need. Therefore he should buy some on top if required. Does also depend on how £200 compares to what CMS would calculate too.

Its not right, its not moral or decent but ots the system in the UK.
