Would I be wrong to cut off my son's paternal family?

My son is nearly 3 his dad has not seen him for nearly 2 years now for many reasons including being abusive to me, drug addiction, being mentally unstable. Despite me trying to help them build a bond in the beginning it was eventually advised from a mediator to arrange for the contact centre. To which he has point blank refused all this time. This isn't the problem as im quite glad he's stayed out of my sons life even though he still trys to get to me sometimes. His mother has also not bothered to make effort for over 2 years, however his sister and his dad have seen our son a handful of times and make arrangements once every few months despite living round the corner. I have never stopped any of his family seeing our son they have just chose to make little effort. My question is would I be in the wrong to just cut the whole family off completely. I feel like none of them really care, and worry it may do more damage the older my son gets ?
