What are normal emotional behaviours for a 4 year old?

I have two kids, my oldest is over 4.5, because they are my first I don't have a lot to compare it to.

Recently, the level of cheek just feels relentless. It feels like most days we are telling them off. They will talk back, refuse to do things, say things like "you don't deserve kids". They will be told not to do something and will do it anyway even when warned of consequence. They will apologise often and will also show remorse. They are very intelligent and at times articulate.

There have been a lot of changes recently, sibling is just 1, I've just returned to work, they've just returned to full time childcare and will be starting a new school in September.

I'm staring to feel overwhelmed by it and like I can't see the wood for the trees so I just need to know if this is actually normal age and stage.

I have a nearly 4.5 year old and yes it’s relentless all day everyday (we’re 4 weeks into school summer holidays in Scotland). Cheek, emotional outbursts several times a day, does not listen whatsoever, refusing to do anything even things like getting dressed, putting shoes on etc. I’m really struggling, as is my partner. I’m just counting down the days until she’s back at nursery so we can get a break from her

Interesting. I have a 4.5 year old (and 6 year old) both girls. The younger is a real terror. Refuses to do anything. Screams. Won’t share anything. Her behaviour is awful. I love her fiercely but not sure I like her always. I try so hard to do fun stuff, activities, time with each and I’m hoping it gets better at school.

Just over 4.5 here too and I don’t recognise this behaviour. “You don’t deserve kids” in particular strikes me as an unusual turn of phrase for their age. Mine can have bursts of being a bit giddy where his ears seem to switch off, but otherwise very pleasant and well behaved. Annoying in that 4 year old way they have when they’re just in their own nonsense world, but nothing that feels relentless or a huge struggle.
