What helped your child learn to handle big emotions?

I’d love to hear how other parents support their children when they have big emotions. Sometimes children can become overwhelmed, angry, upset, or frustrated, and it can be difficult knowing the best way to respond in the moment.
What approaches have worked well for your family? Are there any phrases, routines, or strategies that helped your child learn to manage their emotions better?

Do you mean tantrums? “No, we’re not going to do that unfeasibly ridiculous thing you want to do” was always my starting point, then waiting for it all to blow over. They grow out of it eventually!

Fixing their iron deficiency.

My eldest is autistic and still struggles with big emotions, he's 13. He's quick to apologise when he was one of his out bursts though

The main one is time.

Other than that not adding to the drama and giving space when needed. I'm not convinced by strategies that involve talking a load of words about feelings at them while they aren't in a state to actually listen to you. I think that talking about emotions only works when everyone is calm.
