Anyone else have an overtired eight-year-old who still wakes early?

Anyone else’s child like this? My daughter is 8 and no matter what time she goes to sleep she’s up at 6-6.30am. Last night for example she didn’t go to sleep until just before 11 (we’re on holiday and she wanted to see the entertainment etc) then was up at 6.15 this morning. There’s no chance of her having a siesta for love nor money! She just spends the day ratty and exhausted. I suppose I just want to know that I’m not the only one dealing with overtired children at age 8. I really thought she’d have grown out of it by now!

Solidarity as my six year old is the same and always has been. We’re on holiday and had an identical experience to you last night/this morning!

My 7 year old is the same, he is the energiser bunny!!! Although we have seen an improvement in the last six months as he was getting up at 5.30 every morning.

It is relentless

A 8 year old goes to bed way before 11. Entertainment or not. Sleep 11-6/6.30 = zombie.

Mine are older now but both were the same. Didn’t matter what time they went to bed they were up early and were tired the next day.

And then people would say to you “oh DC will be nice and tired, enjoy your lie in”.

My 8 year old is just starting to leave this behind, so maybe you’re almost there! I’ve realised recently we’ve had to go in and wake him up more often, rather than it being the other way around. And a late night is more likely to mean a lie-in. He still surprises us sometimes, bright eyed and bushy tailed at the crack of dawn, but it’s a big improvement.

My 7 year old is similar. He didn’t go to sleep until 10.30 last night. Was hoping for a lie in but he started singing about 7am (which is earlier than he usually gets up for school).
