Gift to say thank you for hosting DS

My teenage son has been invited to stay at the UK holiday home of a school friend for a few days.

What would be a suitable thank you gift for hosting him? I don’t think they’ll be heading out for dinner so I can’t suggest he pays for a meal. I don’t know the family so no clues really as to what kind of thing they might like but I think they are pretty down to earth. Think remote farmhouse rather than stately home!

Could he take a hamper of nice treats with him for the family? Paying for a meal might feel a bit awkward.

Yes, I would just pack him a few nice treats to hand over to his hosts when he arrives - chocolates, a cake, maybe some nice bread or preserves. I think trying to pay for a meal in that scenario would be a big ask of him, and might make his hosts feel awkward too.

I second the basket of food idea! Especially if you make some things like
muffins that could be had for breakfast.

I think a bottle of nice wine is fine.
