2 year 9 month old struggling with arrival of baby sister

our son is 2 years and 9 months old. We welcomed his baby sister 2 weeks ago and our son is having a tough time with it. He has become very argumentative and tantrum-prone, getting triggered by completely random things and once he enters that angry place it’s then very difficult to calm him. Although he has always had his moments like any toddler he has never been like this before! He absolutely loves his baby sister and always wants to touch/cuddle her and give her toys etc., so I don’t believe he resents her in any way. Me and his dad are trying so hard to ensure that he still gets just as much attention and affection as he did before, always doing our best to make sure one of us is giving him our full attention, but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? Can you offer any advice on what helped? How long did this phase last for you? Any help welcome, thank you.

This was us three months ago! I could have written your exact post. The only difference is my son had just turned two.

we are just Coming out of it now and he is back to his less whiny self. It also helps that the baby is a little bit older and she cries less now. You sound like you are doing all the right things, so sometimes it was just reminding myself It’s a huge adjustment to the only thing he’s ever known in life.

Also we did all the things suggested like saying baby sister has to wait for her milk. We’re looking after you now et cetera so it didn’t feel like it was always wait because baby sister needs something. However, I don’t think this made much of a difference than some of it has just been time for him to adjust.
