When did you move from bassinet to pram seat?

Hi everyone, when did you guys switch from the bassinet to the pram seat. I’ve been really enjoying the bassinet but my little one is nearly 16 weeks and has definitely out grown it already but still can’t hold her head so it feels strange having to put her in a seat any advice please

maybe about 4 months? As long as the seat can recline, you can even just use a forward facing stroller at that age. We went to forward facing at 6 months as mine hated parent facing.

Didimum · 08/07/2026 12:12

About 5 months. Should have waited til 6 months really, but they were getting very discontent laying down. They wanted to be up and looking around at the world.

Jk987 · 08/07/2026 12:14

Is baby using the full length of the bassinet? They might be ok for another few weeks? Use the pram if not but properly reclined.

About 4 months. Mine reclined all the way back anyway, but I just set it up so it was halfway recline to support their head and they were fine ☺️

Cralle · 08/07/2026 12:38

We didn't use a bassinet. Used a carrier and a fully reclining buggy suitable from birth. It didn't feel strange to put her in a seat.

DoNotLoseHope · 08/07/2026 13:56

@Cralle I really regret not using a baby carrier from newborn do you think it’s too late now to use one at 16 weeks
what age did you use your baby carrier upto

@Jk987 yep her head ends up touching the bassinet as she keeps shuffling up no I think she’s got days left in it until she needs something bigger

I’m going to put her in the seat today thanks guys

i used my baby carrier until she was one as in some situations I found it easier than putting the pram up, especially if stairs etc are involved!

DoNotLoseHope · 08/07/2026 14:39

@Turtlestarfish do you recommend splurging on a baby carrier or one from Amazon is probably fine too?

I got a bargain with the baby bjorn one at the time as I found one half price in John Lewis, but a lot of my friends have various makes and they all do the same thing! Just make sure they’re on the approved lullaby trust list to to be on the safe side 😊

ChasingRainbow5 · 08/07/2026 19:22

4 months, but from 3 months I only used the car seat on the pram wheels as he hated the bassinet.

I used my carrier til over 1 so you’re definitely not too late!

shardlakem · 08/07/2026 19:57

5 months as he was objecting to being parent facing / lying down by then! but really should have waited until 6 for the style of pram we had

Meand2Ls · 08/07/2026 20:05

I basically never used the bassinet with either of mine. Sling/carrier was my main way when they were tiny or for very very short trips I.e nursery run, shops car seat on wheels then moved to the seat at 4 months but just had it in a half reclined position until about 6 months although my second was sitting up independently by 4 months so didn’t matter as much with her.

dont get a cheap one, they aren’t safe - much better to get a decent one second hand we had a couple of Ergobaby slings from Vinted in excellent condition. Mine spent so much time in the sling, she didn’t like being put down!

If you have a sling library near you I would really recommend it, they lent me a structured carrier (which I then bought) that I used until 14 months and only stopped using because pregnant again.

OtterMummy2024 · 08/07/2026 21:10

Four months. I realised one day at a baby class that LO was holding their head up pretty well, so it made sense to swap to the seat (which went flat for sleep).

AlphabetCucumber · 08/07/2026 21:10

About three months, as he’d outgrown the bassinet. He’s always been >90th percentile. But we had one where the seat could tilt all the way flat so he wasn’t having to support his own weight in it.

Soapandglory123 · 09/07/2026 06:32

Around 5 months; he hates the bassinet due to reflux and not being able to see things. Immediate improvement with the push chair.

Soapandglory123 · 09/07/2026 06:34

Totally agree re baby carrier, I wish I’d discovered it sooner! Was great for like 3-5 months before he was too heavy for me.

Thawtfulpanda · 09/07/2026 06:34

We were told the bassinet wasn't safe once they can sit up. So we went from having her in the sling and the shopping in the bassinet to having her in a sling with the shopping in the seat because she hated the pram 🙄

Thawtfulpanda · 09/07/2026 06:36

Don't get a sling from Amazon. I'd recommend tula or boba structured ones. I carried mine until 2 in them quite happily.
