those of you who use bumgenius nappies

How many do you have, how old is your baby and how often do you wash?

I am hoping to supplement my current stock of pocket nappies with the Bumgenius v3 but not sure how many to get. Ds3 is due very soon but I will be using ecodisposables/ muslins and wraps initially, so I suppose I'm wondering how many a small baby, but not newborn, would need.

Also do you just use the inserts that come with them or do you stuff them with extra ones?

Thanks in advance.

12
5 months
2 or 3 days (but supplement with disposables and use disposables at night)
Think if we had 15 we'd be sorted.
just use inserts (but they come with a booster pad as well)

v3 comes with one proper insert and a newborn one, which can be used as a booster pad when they're bigger. I have 11 which I will be leaving with the child minder permanently, I'll collect the dirty ones at the same time as DD, wash and return. They dry very quickly so you'd need less than with a shaped 2-parter

I have 20 and wash every other day. I use the inserts that they come with. I have 5 extra inserts as they take longer to dry than the outers.

I use fluffles at night though.

20 sounds like lots, especially for washing every other day. How old is your baby LookingForward?

I reckon I should work up to about 15 including the other pocket nappies we have already. And I am waiting for some Fluffles which I thought would be good for nighttime.

Thanks all of you.

Baby is nearly 4 months. 20 is quite a lot but means that I don't have any washing crises! I did have 15 but there were a few times when DD was wearing the last one and I had to tumble dry which I don't like doing. A couple of just after changing poos and the system collapsed!

Oh I can see why you would want some extras LFTS. I must say, with ds1 and 2 6 and 4 yrs respectively, it seems like an age since I've changed a nappy. I'm enjoying building up my collection of cloth nappies, and looking at what's new this time round, but not really looking forward to the relentless nappy changes again.

DD is 10 months, used since she was 12 weeks old, 20 nappies, wash every three days, use sposies at night. Use the inserts that came with them.

Oh and they are brilliant!

ummadam · 27/06/2008 12:03

5.5m old DS
used bumgenius and few blueberrys pockets since 2months old.
disposable at night (as OH does night time change in the dark and it is easier

We have 16 bumgenius, 2 nappy bins and run a wash every 2/3 days.

When I add in the blueberries i have 22 and can do a wash every 3/4 days but I find the minki fabric gets wet at the legs in this heat so they are in the drawer for the summer.

Ah this is really helpful for me - was just coming on to ask the same question. I have just started using them fulltime (well Moltex at night) with 13 week old and have 11. I wash every other day but have sort of been thinking I might need a few more as I've had a few poo immediately after change scenarios like LFTS! I think you've all justified my decision to purchase at least 4 more Now I just need to decide which colours to buy my next few in...

bg's are great, but just a warning that they may not be btp. DS2 has just grown out of his at 18 months. He's not that huge, but chubby legs & tum so they were too tight on him. I never thought they seemed that generous, I must admit. He may grow back into them but if they're your entire nappy collection might spell disaster! I don't think I'm the only person on here to say so. Other pockets are a lot more generous e.g. wonderoos. Also, in the last few months I had been boosting with bamboo inserts as he was wetting through them too quickly.
