How can I tackle my eight month old's 4am wake ups?

My 8 month old has always been an early riser, but 4am is now too far 😂. He used to sleep quite well through the night until he started teething at 6 months. Now almost every hour I'm having to settle him or put his dummy in, then he's wide awake at 4. He generally goes to sleep between 6.30 and 7pm, but we've tried pushing bedtime back to 8 and bringing it forward to 6 in case he's overtired, but he still wakes at 4. I've also tried different nap times. He's always been a nap fighter so I've even tried letting him contact nap so he sleeps for longer. I feel like I've tried everything.
At the moment, I keep him in the dark bedroom until at least 6. He'll stay in his cot for a while but then cries so I pull him out with me, and he won't even go back to sleep on me. I could maybe deal with the 4am if he wasn't so unsettled during the night as well, I think I'm losing the plot 😂. Has anyone successfully adjusted a similar scenario, or am I just doomed to 4am wake ups?

I think you're doomed to 4am wake ups for a couple of months and then there will be the next developmental torture for you!
