Do other parents have to remind exes about paying maintenance?

I am just wondering how many other parents have to remind their ex to pay maintenance? She's 16 and most of the time I have had to remind, to get a fob off story and he pays when he likes anyway. Why is it that a 40 year old man can't arrange his own bills he's responsible for!?
