My son is off to uni this year. Which would people recommend an iron or a steamer?

Neither.
DC x 2 uni courses I have neither provided iron or steamer, they both survived! I do remember an ironing board in one flat which was never used.

My DC22 never irons, and to be honest nor do I if I can help it.

I haven't ironed anything for about 20 years and my children dont know how. I didn't buy her one for uni and was never mentioned. Drying rack was however

God I ironed as a student and still do now. When people say they don’t iron I feel I am missing some
kind of magical trick as I’d look like a bag lady if I didn’t iron my clothes

I reduce the spin on my washing machine, give things a good shake & put them on the line immediately. They're fine!

a bit more creased on the indoor airer when the rain is relentless & I can't get them on the line.

my iron is up in the loft.

i have to say, I no longer work in an office, ud probably iron if I did.

My husband had a tabletop board and a little travel iron. He worked while at uni so needed to iron his shirts.

Neither.

They were provided in son’s first year halls flats

The ironing board was never unwrapped and there were 6 people in his flat.

He said other flats were the same, except one that had used it as a temporary bar.

Ha ha this!

What the hell?

Neither, what's he going to iron???

hellospring26 · 13/06/2026 14:48

The only reason I have an iron is from when my kids were into Hama beads. I don’t even know if we still have it.

I did iron occasionally but there was a laundry room with iron in the accommodation block.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 13/06/2026 14:52

Bless you.

mindutopia · 13/06/2026 14:53

Neither? But which one does he use now loads?

I’m 45 and I’ve never used a steamer in my life. I gave the iron away when we were packing to move 4 years ago because don’t use that either. 😂

MIL packed Dh off with about 10 cases of strongbow.

People who dont iron think no one can tell but we can!

When you go for a job interview , a meeting, parents evening you can always tell! I iron about once every 10 days because I work at home a lot but if I attend a meeting/dinner out you bet I will iron something.

We don't care.

Dd1 didn’t take one dd2 did but because she was in the cadets, they have to iron! He can always buy one from the supermarket if he does need one
