Baby monitor question

I am looking for a new baby monitor - I want one that ideally can be silent most of the time and just come on when significant noise is detected eg crying - my current one has sound on permanently so I hear the white noise and every little fidget or whine! Don’t mind whether it’s a phone app or parent unit. All suggestions welcome

We have one that you can mute and it lights up if baby cries/talks, green initially and then red if baby is really angry but the light wouldn’t wake you up in the night! I haven’t heard of one that unmutes itself.

Would you not hear a cry without a baby monitor?

We turned off our monitor for this reason. Baby was sleeping but we weren't because every little sleepy moan was coming through very loud through the monitor. We keep the bedroom door open so we can hear him if he actually cries. No safety issues as he's in a crib, in a sleep sack and nothing else.
