Advice after my six-year-old was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia

Hey all,

my child who is 6yrs old just got diognosed with adhd, dyslexia and possible even dyscalculia.

feeling a little defeated today, any advice from anyone in the same boat ?

They aren't going to grow out of it so learn as much as you can about how to support them in school and in life. Encourage things they enjoy and are good at, celebrate their strengths and be their safe space when they need it. Keep communicating with school and don't catastrophise! Good luck!

Best advice I can give you is medication for school, no medication, routine , love, patience and kindness for home. It would be lovely to say, don’t worry it will be fine, but accessing an education is almost impossible without medication.

My child is now an adult with a professional career, but I know it would not have happened without the meds. He was never made to take it at home, BUT life would have been much easier for all of us if we had used medication all the time.
