Nine month-old rarely smiles back at people, should I be worried?

He doesn’t respond to smiles, this is the same with me and his dad and strangers. He will only smile or laugh at something like a funny noise. You have to try really really hard to get a smile. Not sure if I should be worried? Other babies at this age, instinctively smile back, not constantly but often. Constantly dealing with people saying how serious he is.

I think all babies are just different, at this age my boy used to stare at people and smile until they smiled back at him! He loved engaging with people and is still exactly the same now. My little girl however will smile at familiar faces but random strangers who interact and smile at her she’ll give them the death stare 😂 you should be having your 9 month developmental review coming up though, you could always mention it to put your mind at rest?
