What is day-to-day life like for day boarders at Wells?

I am mom of 2 boys who start senior school (Year 7 and Year 10) at wells cathedral in sept. One is in general musician program and the other will be specialist football program. Both me and my husband have hybrid working arrangement in London. I have to go in every alternate week or once in 3 weeks and husband same frequency. We would prefer flexi boarding as younger one has never boarded before (although older one has), but we are unable to find rentals in wells that is to our liking. We found a house that is an hour of a drive - but wondering what the schedule for the boys be if they were to commute 2 days in a week from that place? My question - what does a day to day look like for a day boarder ? Do they stay back often after 6 ? How are the homework demands ? Do they have to go into weekends , if yes, then how many times?

Wouldn’t you be better off asking the school itself?

Surely, ask some current students, not bloody MN. I was a day student at a different school. I could be finished anywhere between 15:30 (short day with nothing in the afternoon) to 18:00 (sports) to 22:00 (theatre rehearsals).

I would not have wanted to be uprooted from a familiar much loved home, nor commute an hour each way for school though. This would be especially the case as they will both surely be finishing at very different times as different specialist programmes. I wouldn’t have wanted to board either, not more than once or twice a week flexi boarding. Generally, independent school days are long to accommodate working parents or fill up time for those who board. I’ve done a long London commute 3x a week with 2 in state school that finishes at 3pm. You will be fine!

From year 9 onwards all pupils are in school for core lessons every Saturday morning

I’d think twice about wells. The football programme is brand new and untested. As the previous poster said Saturday school is for year 9s and above. The headmaster is changing in September.

last July saw a boarding house close due to falling numbers and a mass exodus of science teaching staff also a massive reduction in subjects offered at A level. I wouldn’t be uprooting my family for it. We are thankfully finishing this year.
