9 month old baby - teething and wont suck thumb any more! Help!

LO has been teething for ever and over the last month has stopped sucking her thumb which is a massive pain in the arse as she wont settle well anymore.

We've been doing all the right things for her teeth - pain relief etc. But she has been such a mare to settle at night in such that she takes ages to settle down at 7pm, then wakes again at 7.30pm and then again from 3 am onwards. On my knees doesnt even cover it! In my desparation, went and got a few dummies to encourage her to suck again and spend all day putting her thumb in her mouth.... So far the dummy is working...

Am I creating a rod for my back here?

what type of pain relief have u tried? as i used to give my DD calpol (god sent!) and bonjela. It calms her down esp when the molars was coming thru.

Don't encourage thumb-sucking. It's sooooo bad for her teeth.

Have you tried the teething powders? If all else fails, Medised.

Medised doesnt work on her, nor teething powders. Calprofen does work to an extent....

I'm really gutted she's been boycotting her thumb as it used to settle her so well...

is it a daft idea to give a dummy to her now she's 9 months old? Only want it as a temporary measure till she realises she has thumbs...

I wouldn't encourage the thumb sucking - my sister still sucks hers and she was 40 in Jan !!

Have you tried Anbesol liquid - you buy it over the pharmacy - its got about 8 times as much "numbing" power than Bonjela and its a liquid so you just dab it on. I used it on my LO and it did help. I had a mouth ulcer last year and hunted his old stuff out - it was brilliant - really numbs in seconds.

Medised now banned for under 2's!

I have heard nothing but good things about Anbesol.

Yes it's now not recommended, but I'm not going to suddenly stop using it.

Did your baby ever start sucking her thumb again? I'm desparate for mine to!
