Just for fun, obviously I’m aware that each child and experience is different.
1 = easy, 10 = extremely challenging
(When I say ‘easy’ I mean easy within these parameters, I found nothing about babies and toddlers particularly easy)

Here is mine so far, DS is 18 months:
0-3 months: 8
3-6 months: 3
6-9 months: 2
9-12 months: 5
12-15 months: 7
15-18 months: 6
18-24 months: ?
24-30 months: ?
30-36 months: ?
3-4 years: ?

First child

3-6 months: 1
6-9 months: 3
9-12 months: 4

18-24 months: 5
24-30 months: 5
30-36 months: 6
3-4 years: 5
4-6: 5
7-8: 6

Easy baby, pretty chilled toddler but got more demanding over time. Didn't reliably sleep through till 8, doesn't sleep till 11pm still and issues with ND, emotional regulation etc make things v intense. Baby days were a walk in the park by comparison.

Second child

0-3 months: 3
3-6 months: 3
6-9 months: 8
9-12 months: 9
12-15 months: 8

18-24 months: 7
24-30 months: 5
30-36 months: 10*
3-4 years: 9
4-6: 8

Average to fussy baby, sleep deteriorated as an older baby and reached peak bad 6-18m. Started sleeping better at 2, with occasional sleeping through. Things got worse at 3 due to a life changing illness. Hospitals, feeding tubes, a myriad of issues and admissions. Things got slowly better and now at 6, still cosleeps, still doesn't sleep through, still lots of appointments, school issues, health issues etc, emotional regulation is shot, but better than previously.

Sorry to hear that, I can’t imagine how tough that must have been / still is.

0-3 months: 8
3-6 months: 2
6-12 months: 9 (I had an early walker, trust me you don't want a 10 month old running and climbing)
12-24 months: 1, piss easy, peak parenting era
24 months: TBD, only just getting there

Kingdomofsleep · 19/03/2026 01:54

For us with our first it was basically a countdown from level 10 at the beginning levelling off to about a level 4 from 2yo. Every stage just a bit easier than the last. With our second it was the same but started at a 7.

0-1m: 10
1-4m: 9
4-6m: 7 (breastfeeding got easier)
6-9m: 6
9-18m: 5
18m-5yo: 4 (with a brief spike starting school)

But my eldest is only 5 so it might get worse again...

I think it partly depends on how your birth went. My first was a car crash so the postpartum period was a blur of misery and physical pain and getting better was gradual. And lockdown was weird.

Once the kids could learn to follow basic instructions (between 18 and 24mo each time) things got so, so much easier
