Weaning 3-year-old before baby arrives, coping with breastfeeding newborn

I have a little boy who is still breastfed, we plan to wean by his 3rd birthday. He will be 3.5 years old when younger sibling comes along, so 5 months without milk from me.

anyone had this experience? did the eldest do okay watching the baby nurse? How was their relationship? If it helps, he’s naturally the sweetest boy around babies and we’re really confident he will be a great big brother. He’s quite a sensitive soul and due to work obligations, we will be moving country and he will be starting nursery right before new baby arrives. I hate the timeline but we can’t change it. Any advice would be appreciated 🥹

I would wean ASAP. And I would do it all at once (don't drag out one feed at a time).

I love breastfeeding and have been breastfeeding my toddler but you 1) want as big a time distance between BF them so that 3 year old sort of forgets and 2) need to take care of yourself a bit.

Congratulations!

I Did not wean my 3 year old and it was fine. He would have the occasional go and I didn’t try to discourage him as such more distract him with a higher value treat (in his case chocolate milk). I was worried about sibling rivalry but I think the fact he wasn’t told no helped.
