My nearly 9 month old attends nursery 2 days per week.

on Tuesday he come home with a small scratch on the back of his head and we brushed it off.

today he has a deep scratch on his arm and a smaller one on the back of his leg….

images attached. I’m heart broken I wish I didn’t have to work 😢

nursery never mentioned anything to me either!

ive messaged the centre manager on the app. But surely this is not acceptable??

Hmm I dont like the look of that big one on his arm. They may have missed the smaller one on his leg but I would think that they should definitely have an explanation for the big one on the arm.
Hopefully they get back to you and can provide some reassurance x

Overthebow · 26/02/2026 20:05

yes the big one isn’t acceptable if they haven’t explained what happened here. The small one would be easy to miss.

But how did he get them as presumably he had leggings and long sleeves on? They look like scratches from bare skin? Totally unacceptable :( how is he when you drop him off?

his absolutely fine it’s only this week so Tuesday and Thursday (today) last week he was sick but prior to that no issues. His had 3 changes of clothes today including a vest.

Totally unacceptable. Possibly not deliberate but still needs investigated. Perhaps one of the nursery staff has inappropriate nails that are long and have caused the scratches by accident when changing his nappy or clothes. My son has been at nursery for a year and a half, there has been one scratch the whole time on the back of his neck which I presumed to be done by accident when applying suncream. For your son I'd definitely want an explanation and reassurance it won't happen again!

As I say I’ve messaged the centre manager on the app. I will also call tomorrow morning. I really hope it’s just a one off. Someone else changed his nappy this PM and he is a wiggler still it’s a nasty scratch and his pierced the skin. His fine in himself and it’s not bothering him. Xx

You've done the right thing to ask questions straightaway of the nursery, hopefully with photos attached?

Yes I’ve attached the ones I posted on here. I understand his going to have a few hiccups but the arm looks very sore x
