Hi. Just looking for any advice of tried and tested suncream for babies with eczema?
My little one is almost 9 months and has had eczema since she was 6 weeks old.
We go away in a couple of months and have no clue what suncream to buy her
We only wash her with dermol wash from the gp and she has zerobase emollient. We have also used aveeno dermexa and she is fine with that.
I'm just so unsure which one to go for so was wondering if anyone in the same situation has some recommendations. Thanks

Altruist is great! Not expensive and made by a dermatologist

La Roche Posay was the best we found. I think they might have once done a kids one, but generally I just use the normal SPF 50 one.

Fwiw, I also have skin cancer (lord knows how because I am psychotic about sun cream, but obviously 40 years ago, my parents were not) and it’s also the sun cream recommended by my consultant as I have to be extra careful in the sun.

It's quite individual, unfortunately, so you might have to try a few. My DD gets on with the Boots Kids Sensitive/Eczema one (white with a blue lid, at least in previous years!).

My child with eczema is allergic to an ingredient in standard suncream and we have to use mineral sunscreen. It took us a while to work out what was causing her eczema to get worse. We use the Blue Lizard kids mineral sunscreen.

Purplecomet….how did you figure out what she was allergic to? I think my 6 year old daughter maybe allergic to suncream!

mrsmacmc · 28/06/2026 00:13

only one we found didn’t upset DD skin was the Tesco own 50spf unfragranced baby spray one. Blue spray top / white bottle

E45 kids & baby, sensitive 50+spf

Green people spf 50 100%!

I have eczema and am allergic to suncream, go for 100% mineral.

Is there a particular brand you use or would recommend??

They are all a little difficult to rub in. Eucerin mineral is ok. I got the Avène one and it's kind of pink colored and impossible to rub in. Not sure what is available in the UK, I think I had a Neutrogena one that was good last year.

Her eczema got a lot worse in the late spring/early summer when we started to use suncream. Then her face went blotchy and red and she was scratching at her eyes. We tried several normal suncream, Nivea, sultan, aldi own brand etc and the reaction was the same. Symptoms have gone away since we have used mineral sunscreen. We have used a few different ones but are currently using https://www.amazon.co.uk/BLUE-LIZARD-Sunscreen-Lotion-cream/dp/B08Y8KT28V/ref=asc_df_B08Y8KT28V?mcid=6b2cb59205353ed2899f202102942254&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=710835854789&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6769966702680229778&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006888&hvtargid=pla-1238062306497&psc=1&hvocijid=6769966702680229778-B08Y8KT28V-&hvexpln=0&gad_source=1 as it is not quite as expensive as some others.

Altruist is the best one we’ve found for our son, who gets awful eczema. Or the Boots own brand for kids.

IHateSpring · 28/06/2026 15:55

Another one here recommending Altruist. My kids with eczema tolerate it really well and I use it on my very sensitive face

Teaandtarot · 28/06/2026 21:23

We have just used Heliocare pediatrics it was brilliant

It's lightweight and rubs in easily as I've heard a lot of baby ones are thick and hard to apply

ceeb21 · 28/06/2026 23:15

We have used badger zinc based for a while and just trying moo goo zinc based for our DD who has suffered with eczema pretty badly!

We tried Heliocare, I agree that it was really good and rubbed in easily. Soooo expensive for a tiny bottle though. It's frustrating that tithe 100% mineral sunscreens are so pricey.

Yeah I thought I must have ordered travel size by mistake when it arrived
