We are a family of 4: me, DH, DS1 (5 almost 6) and DS2 (2.5). We have a generally happy and harmonious household but I sometimes feel that we don’t do much that is special/exciting for the boys. I think it would be lovely to have some special weekly things we do, something as simple as watching a film with snacks after school/nursery on a Friday, or all going swimming together every Saturday morning, or having a roast with candles lit (anyone else’s kids love candles?!) each Sunday.

Please tell me about your family rituals or traditions!

Whatever we eat for Sunday lunch, there are candles!

As long as I can remember we have done film night on a Saturday night. We still do it with whoever is in (dc now 15 and 17). Usually make our own pizzas and have a pizza making playlist.

We get chippy chips on the walk home from school on a Friday - does that count? 😂

Film night on Friday and Saturday evening with popcorn and sweets.
family breakfast on weekend mornings.
something active together over the weekend like a walk, a swim, park or a bike ride
library Wednesday evening
Sunday meal of roast chicken, potatoes, veg (just season and chuck in the oven all together rather than than faffy) followed by dessert/pudding

Pizza in front of the tv on Friday nights, mainly started because by the time we all get home from work/after school club we're (I'm) knackered but the kids love it and now look forward to it. Every other night we all eat at the kitchen table.

Whenever my dad can't do something with tech - despite having worked in IT his entire adult life - we always have to say something about him having worked on nuclear bombs/military planes/satellites but is now outwitted by his oven clock or sat nav.

Whenever one of the kids loses something I have to activate my fallopian tube divining rods to locate it, or switch on my ovary homing beacons.

Person who has school tests / exams gets to choose the evening meal menu for the week(s) they’re on.

We have a chilled Friday where we will have a treat dinner (pizza/fajitas or similar). We don't have a spaghetti Tuesday type thing like some people, as we like to mix our meals up abit each week. Kids love our friday thing though, and it's a nice start to the weekend.

Sit down Sunday lunch every week without fail. It’s the only time we all really sit and eat together due to clubs and bedtimes. Takeaway and film most Saturdays.

We also seasonal have traditions like Easter egg hunt in the garden and making an Easter tree. We go pumpkin picking before Halloween (was doing this years before it got trendy!) Also go to the same garden centre every Christmas for a mooch.
