White noise that sounds like a hairdryer?

My 5 week old settles immediately to the sound of the hair dryer, but I’m concerned I’ll burn down the house running it for too long! I’ve tried hair dryer videos on YouTube and white noise on Spotify but they don’t have the same effect. Can anyone recommend a white noise machine?

Have you tried that bastard sheep?

MrsFionaCharming · 30/01/2026 18:17

Not yet, but looking at Amazon I think it’s the solution!

Get a cheap fan from Amazon. One that has adjustable speeds.

my baby was waking hourly and I was on the verge of going insane from sleep deprivation

one night I left the fan on in my room (no where near the baby BTW) but it was quite loud.

he slept 7 hours solid. I cried happy tears and he’s been listening to white noise ever since!!

I Also use the calm app and the Brown / brownian noise soundscape.

Ooh, I’ve got a fan. I’ll definitely test that out before paying for something new.

We use a lumi. It also has a red light function that we use as a night light

There are apps with hairdryer and similar sounds. Sound Sleeper was great for both of mine. It got the point where I couldn’t sleep without it myself 😅

Static on the radio at low volume worked super well for my third baby. If you have a radio go on gm and ‘tune in’ to some static
