Do you live in Salisbury or somewhere nearby in Wiltshire?

What is it like to live in Salisbury with Young children or in Wiltshire nearby this area?

Thinking about whether it would be nice to move near my in-laws. We’re currently in a forward-thinking, diverse city with loads to do with kids but no chance of upsizing and we’re so far from family. There are a few other things that we dislike about the city we’re currently in but don’t want to rush and move away because there are loads of positives.

I would really love and appreciate some honest feedback from anyone already living in this area.
If you would feel comfortable, would you kindly comment on diversity, things to do with kids, schools, snobbiness/lack-of and general lifestyle.

Thanks in advance!

I loved living in Wiltshire - Burbage, Collingbourne etc but it is rural. Beautiful countryside, good communities. It's probably less diverse than you are used to.

If you have dcs and you want a community with facilities, Salisbury, Devizes, Trowbridge or Chippenham would be better. Salisbury has good schools. I'm not keen on Swindon but I suppose it depends what you are used to. Where do your in-laws live?

We love living in Wiltshire, we are north of Salisbury so have a range of towns/cities within an hour (Swindon, Bath, Bristol etc) and the coast within 2. Schools are all pretty good (and have their own specialities) beautiful countryside and lots of outdoor activities. On the other hand my DS hated the infrequency of public transport and the insular feel of some places 🤷🏼‍♀️
