Early morning wake ups driving me mad

My youngest has started waking up very early every morning and I am exhausted. No matter what time he goes to bed he is awake before six. I feel like I have tried everything and nothing makes a difference. Did anyone else go through this and did it eventually pass or am I missing something obvious.

How old are they? My son spent about 6 months waking up at about 4:30! From about 15 months? Then it slowly got closer to 6 which felt like a dream. Then when the clocks changed in spring when he had just turned 2 he started sleeping until 7!
unfortunately nothing we tried worked I’m sorry, but it did pass! I was pregnant for that period and utterly miserable for the first couple of hours of the day!

Agree that age is important here. I'd say all young toddlers go through it though.

Yes, that’s pretty rough. Maybe earlier bedtimes for both the youngest (and for yourself) until it’s resolved. At one time I was so exhausted I started going to bed at the same time as my baby (8pm).

I counted myself lucky if he slept in till 5am, nothing changed it, I rolled with it and accepted this was how it worked. It’s easier just to go with it, we finally made it to 6am at about age four and a half, then 6-6.30 was the rule for the next 8 years or so!

I just used to go to bed at 9.

Mine was up at 5:30 every single day for about 2 years. Nothing changed it except time.

What time are you putting them to bed?
Go to bed earlier yourself.

Not me but SIL’s DS (2) still wakes her in the night and woke her up the other night 6 times which she wasn’t impressed with! He’ll just yell “mum” or “mop (milk)” until she wakes, she closes her eyes though.

That sounds exactly like how I’m feeling right now honestly. I’ve been resisting the idea of an even earlier bedtime for myself but you’re probably right. When you’re that exhausted you just have to do what gets you through.

It really varies. Some nights he’s out by eight and I think we’re sorted but he still wakes early. Other nights he’s full of energy and won’t settle until nine or ten. It’s exhausting and feels impossible to keep any kind of routine right now.

Depending on age have you tried a gro clock or similar? My 4yo wakes early but knows not to come out of her room (unless she needs the toilet/ there's an emergency) until the sun comes onto her yoto player. We go for early bedtimes for both of us!

around 21 years ago when my first was a baby there was a mumsnet book - full of parenting tips from mumsnet mums on various common challenges. One of them said the heating coming on was waking their baby early in the morning so they changed it and they started to sleep later. Mine was also coming on around the time my baby was waking so I tried adjusting the heating and it actually worked. So a random tip to try but it worked for me.

It’s brutal. Going to bed earlier isn’t all that helpful for me as I’m still tired. Bed at 11 up at 7; fine. Bed at 9, up at 5, tired.
