What songs are being played at primary school discos?

My 5 year old has his first school disco soon and we haven’t exposed him to lots of current music yet. (We have the radio on with classical or throwbacks)

What kind of songs have been played at recent school discos that you know of please? I know about Kpop Demon Hunters but that’s it!

basically whatever is popular so the sort of mainstream stuff that will be played on the radio. If you put on the radio on the school run or put it on at home at breakfast time then it’s that same type of pop music. At our school disco which was for ages 7-10 that’s the sort of music that was played.

I’m guessing this is your PFB?

It’s been a while since mine were in Primary but I doubt they’ll be putting on Wutang Clan Smile

Iocanepowder · 28/11/2025 19:11

Is anyone able to help me with some specific songs please?

I’m just looking for some examples I can play for him beforehand and dance to at home. He sometimes does better with things when he knows more what to expect.

Pink Pony Club, ATP, sclub reach, shake it off, also probably some Christmas songs this time of year?

DappledThings · 28/11/2025 19:15

A lot of 80s classics! I'm Still Standing, Never Gonna Give You Up and Livin' on a Prayer have been massive at ours recently.

Slothey · 28/11/2025 19:15

I’m a little older and can remember vividly a leaving party at Primary where we could take our own vinyl. My BF took Turning Japanese by the Vapours which was quickly removed from the turntable by the music Teacher Grin

Apt and Shake it off are good bets . I wouldn’t worry about it. Some of the children like my youngest have much older siblings so they would be used to certain types of music being played at home but children at that age will just dance around to anything .A boy in my DCs class is obsessed with the Beatles and he is only six but he gets it from his grandad who he spends lots of time with. I hope he has a lovely time OP

Was at our school disco last night…

KPop demon hunters x 100000000
Taylor Swift
ATP
Pink Pony Club
Freed from desire
Cha Cha Slide (had to teach them that one!)

Its raining tacos
I’m a gummy bear
(don’t know if these are the actual song titles but they all know them somehow… ask your Alexa if you have one!)

These are ones I remember hearing! The rest was a blur of noise, squash and biscuits.

SwimBikeRunBake · 29/11/2025 15:32

Sweet Caroline, usually last song of the night, with every child singing along at the top of their voice!

Iocanepowder · 30/11/2025 07:22

Thank you everyone for replying :) I’ll get cracking with a little playlist for him!

We recently had a school disco and the kids kept requesting songs from the 90s as that’s what they know

rollerblind · 30/11/2025 07:51

Katseye songs - gnarly, touch, Gabriella

Sirzy · 30/11/2025 07:55

Ours would be happy with demon hunters on repeat the whole time.

IstillloveKingThistle · 30/11/2025 07:58

Well if you were to ask my eleven year old he’ll suggest a mix of 90s bangers , a touch of funky house and a few Coldplay and Oasis belters.
He also really likes Bob Marley and Michael Jackson.
We play music in this house all the time and he has a wide range of tunes he loves .
All of the above op. Defo Gala, TS and there’s more he said they all loved at PGL disco ( I can’t remember) but he’s asleep now so will report back once he’s awake.
