Prolonged jaundice in formula fed baby at 5 weeks old. Worried.

My DD is almost 5 weeks old. She's had jaundice since a couple of days old. Seemed to almost resolve around 3 weeks old but recently her colour has went more yellow again and the Health Visitor came out today, told me to call GP who has now referred to hospital tomorrow for tests.

I'm really worried 😥Everything I've read suggests that formula fed babies should not be jaundiced at this point and it could be down to underlying causes to do with the liver.

Not really any other signs but she does have a small congenital abnormality on her ear which apparently in isolation doesn't mean anything but in combination can be a sign of other issues. Again she doesn't have any other signs of anything just the ear tag and the jaundice, maybe a little slow to gain weight.

Anyone have any experience or expertise? Hopefully tomorrow will shed some light but would appreciate some views.

Dear OP,
I know this must be very worrying. The important thing is that if there is a problem it has been identified early. Dr Google can be very scary and sometimes misleading in situations like this but I also know the desperate desire for information. Can I please direct you to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation yellow alert pages. It gives information about neonatal and prolonged jaundice: https://childliverdisease.org/yellow-alert/

Thinking of you and hope you get positive news.
