12 month old keeps waking up multiple times to see if I’m there

She used to be an okay sleeper, if I patted her, she would go back to sleep and stay in her cot until morning.

Since she got poorly about a month ago, she wakes up multiple times. First half of the night, she’s okay with me shushing her and she would stay in the cot but would take ages and she would keep opening her eyes to see if I’m there. Second half, she would hysterically cry to the point that I have to take her out and put her beside me. Even in my bed, she wakes up crying to see if I’m there.

I have tried to do sleep training, doesn’t work with her. She just gets hysterical.

She used to be a decent sleeper, giving me 6 hour stretches etc.

She doesn’t have milk during the night.

She started nursery 6 weeks ago.

I am not sure what to do?

It’s possible that starting nursery and how they manage sleep there has made a difference. Plus being ill and out of routine always used to cause problems with mine.

Ask how sleep is managed at nursery? They might not be 100% honest so chat with other parents if necessary.

Of course it could just be a clingy phase she’s going through.
