Child Psychologist after 15 months toilet training as still soiling - any experience?

Ds (4.3) due to start school in September and is STILL regularly (at the moment daily) pooing and occasionally weeing in pants. The HVs have now referred him to Child Psychologist. Has anyone had any experience of this? Feel like a complete failure as a parent (single mum) What should I expect? Have I done something wrong? Was going out of my mind after 9 months of training but now.........

Anyone?

Sorry, no experience really, but wanted to bump - sounds a real stress for you. I know plenty of children who did soil for ages ie about a year after being trained, and dd was having wet pacthes in her knickers during reception, but what you are describing sounds more significant.

Is pooing a trauma for your DS? Does he have constipation/diarrhoea issues? Is he dexterous enough to get his clothes down before the poo comes? I am sure you must have considered these things, but thought I would ask.

I hope someone comes along soon who can help. Do you think it is a physical or an emotional thing?

He doesn't seem to have any problems with the poo or constipation/diarrhoea. He can dress/undress himself too. Think it has been laziness up until a few weeks a go when the "terrible 4s" hit with avengence, now I think a bit of defiance has set in.

Thanks for your reply.
