Toddler refusing to wear hats

Basically this.
My 17 month old toddler refuses to wear anything that covers his head. In the summer, it was sun hats which he took off immediately. Now, he will pull off any kind of beanie or hoodie and scream his head off if I try to make him wear one. The problem is he has been sick with otitis already twice in the past month. The doctor said he absolutely needs to wear a hat now that the temperatures dropped. And of course I agree. I just don’t know what to try anymore to make him accept it.
Has anyone else been through this phase? Any advice would be great!

Does he have a favourite character on TV or in books? Sometimes it can help if you find a themed hat.

A bit puzzled that the doctor insists on a hat-surely otitis is a bacterial infection?

I get frequent-ish infections in my right ear and cold windy days cause absolute agony in that ear. I almost always wear a hat that covers my ears from October to March. Whenever I don't, for example I walk for lunch with work colleagues and forget and it happens to be windy, I always, 100% of the time, pay for it that evening. The longer I stay out in the wind, the worse the pain is and for longer.

I can imagine a toddler could be quite distressed by that.

I do agree that uncovered ears leads to ear infections

I like the idea of character hats: pirate, cowboy etc

Something else for you to organise eh op

😅

Have you tried a scarf of snood, so its coming up to his ears rather than down over his ears?

I'm not sure that "must wear a hat" is sound medical advice. What's the medical reason for it?

I wondered the same and anyway it's not that cold yet surely.
