Buy every half shoe size or every whole shoe size and use insoles?

DS is almost 5 years old and is shoe size 10. We get his feet measured at Clarks regularly and have bought every half shoe size up until now. Should we keep doing that or just buy every whole shoe size and use insoles to bring the shoes down half a size if needed? (i.e. when he’s approaching size 10.5, just buy size 11 and put in insoles until he reaches closer to 11).

Just buy ones that Clark’s say for they allow growth room fit or you’ll be causing damage to his toes.

I find mine wear the shoes out before they grow out of them so I just buy that fits. I don’t buy Clark’s though as they didn’t last long.

No, buy the correct size for his feet. Insoles will go flat after 1 wear and then he'll be curling his toes to keep his shoes on.

We do a mix. Shoes that are worn daily she has half sizes. She typically gets 9 months out of a pair of shoes. For shoes she wears occasionally we get full sizes.

I keep an eye on Clarks sales and buy in advance or buy from start rite clearance. At Christmas she had outgrown her shoes and was now a size 7. I bought the same pair of shoes in a 7 and a 7.5 for £16 each! I tried both on her and had the 7.5 been ok I would have returned the 7s but the 7.5 were too big on her. They went into the cupboard and came out last month and they now fit. We have a foot measurer from start rite so we can keep an eye on her show size.

You don't usually need to replace the existing shoes if he's only gone up half a size. There would still be some room left.

No, you just get the size that they need at that moment.
