Pram/travelling around with a 21 month old & newborn

Hello

I’m 16 weeks pregnant due in March next year. When the baby is born, my DS will be 21 months. My initial thought was to get a double tandem pram (one seat in front of the other rather than side by side) but the other day i met a mom who had babies with a similar age gap and she said the tandems aren't great, can't get on buses with them and pushing it hurt her wrists.

I wanted this type of pram as I go out a LOT, to playgroups etc and depend on public transport (buses and national rail trains) to get around. Buses are bad enough with a single pram so I’d rather have something that’s space saving.

I’d like to get others’ ideas and opinions/experiences on what is best for this sort of age gap and what I’d need it for please.

Thank you x

Mountain buggy duet - not much wider than a single pram and you can get a bassinet attachment for newborns.

Definitely not a tandem - up and down kerbs is hard work. I'd keep a single and have the baby in a carrier whenever you need to go on public transport, and get an out n about double for other times as it fits through standard doors and is lighter than most single travel system prams.

This. I had a 22 month gap and this buggy and it was great. Fitted on all buses, including those ones that are basically minibuses and through single doors but is still a side by side.

The cot bit slides onto one of the seats. It was great.

Tandems are rubbish. I had a bigger age gap and an uppababy vista and it was so heavy and cumbersome. I wish I'd had either the uppababy minu, out n about double or mountain buggy duet instead.

@baby2boo @DappledThings I’ve just had a look at the mountain buggy duet and it honestly looks like exactly the kind of pram I need, thank you for the recommendation. Just a question - it appears to come with the 2 older baby seat bits. Am I correct in thinking that I’d need to buy the carry cot/newborn bassinet seat separately and that I can attach it next to the older baby seat? Hope this makes sense 😬☺️ thank you x

I got mine second hand and the friends we bought it from had already bought rhe bassinet too so yes you do need to get it as an extra. You just lie one of the seats flat and the bassinet slides into it. It's not attached exactly but it's a really snug secure fit.

Baby jogger city tour is another option with a slightly lower price point x

I had a side by side reclining buggy, though I didn’t start using it until dd2 was 3 months or so, used a carrier if I was out alone for long with them until that point (short distances dd1 would walk on reins pushing her baby!)

This also looks really good! Can you put a carrycot on one of the seats for a smaller baby? Xx
