My DS 22 months is obsessed with planes and helicopters... he absolutely loves them!! So we took him to a small local private airfield today. It was really cloudy so none of the planes were flying they were all grounded.

Hang on rewind a second...

Before the airfield we took him to Ponyland where he was stroking ponies. They have a wishing well there. He threw in his 2p and wished to become a pilot!!

Fast forward an hour.

We took him to this airfield but no one was flying. Went in to the office and the very nice man there offered to take us out and show us the planes up close and personal! So he did!! DS went right up to them and touched them and everything then...

The nice man let DS get in the cockpit!!!!!!!

DS nearly exploded with excitement!!! He got to push all the buttons and stuff and accidentally fired up the engines at which point the nice man said "well maybe you shouldnt push THAT button!"

DS is great though he can identify all these different types of planes already its so clever!! I was sooooo happy for him! It was really great and I just had to share!! We are going back to the airfield next weekend!

UC if you have a little airfield near you you should take them we found them very nice people! The nice man even said he expects to be giving DS flying lessons in a few years time!

That's lovely and so wonderful. I remember visiting a friend whose DH is an RAF pilot. He let DS1 and DD1 sit in the cockpit of his plane. I was busy puking as I was pregnant with DD2. I have pictures. DS1 was beside himself with joy and DD2 wanted to be a jet plane when she grew up! Memories!

eenybeeny · 02/06/2008 09:24

NO grr I did not take pictures and I am so cross about that. It was kind of impromptu so I didnt have my camera. But we are going back this weekend and I will beg that they let him do it again so I can get a picture!!!

eenybeeny i just checked your profile and our lo's share the same name- i checked cos i i wondered if you were local to me because we go to a little airfield every weekend cos my lo the same mad about planes and helicopters! he was going mad this week cos they wer fixing the brakes on a vulcan and that night it was all he could talk about ....

minniedot · 02/06/2008 15:17

Lovely! What a treat for him, he sounds a clever little lad.

OiMum · 02/06/2008 15:38

You sound like you are absolutely bursting with pride- and rightly so!! Sounds like a bright little fella you've got there.

I have to say thank you as this post has put a smile on my face too- it's lovely to see a message like this.

Good luck with the saving by the way- at the moment my 10 month old is obsessed with shoes so his father is worrying he's going to end up a shoe designer. He might be happier with a pilot!

eenybeeny · 02/06/2008 15:53

ooh notreal how old is your LO? I will check your profile too I always forget to do that!!

I am really proud of him. My DH isnt actually so keen on DS being a pilot he is terrified his plane will crash so is going to encourage him to be a doctor. But I want him to be a pilot that never crashes!! Maybe air ambulance?? You dont ever hear of those helicopters crashing do you.
