Toddler struggling to settle back in at nursery after summer hols

Hi all, just after some advice really.

My toddler (2.3) went back to nursery yesterday after six and a half weeks off. She wouldn't settle at all, screamed when I left and I ended up having to go get her and take her home. Three of the other children were the same as her and they were all setting each other off plus there was some parents in the room as new children were starting today.

Today we tried again and she wouldn't let me leave, then screamed she wanted to go home after an hour playing and so we did. The other children were more settled today, although admittedly I don't know what happened when we left, and the new starters were doing brilliantly so the parents weren't in the room. But DD just could not be enticed to stay, poor thing.

After any tips on how to explain to my DD that she needs to go back to nursery and to help her remember it is a safe space and she had so much fun there? Right now, I'm worried she thinks it's a punishment being left there after having so much time at home with me. Or it's a compliment to what a fun time she has with me!

She started nursery in June and, after about five weeks settling in, absolutely loved it and started to really thrive in the three weeks she was there for full sessions. She was pretty much non-verbal then but has since become a little chatterbox so maybe it's all different to her now? idk, I just know that I don't really want to spend a month going to pick her up when she's upset because that's defo the wrong message but equally I hate seeing her so distressed.

TIA.
