Bahy vomits an hour or so after finger food

My baby is just 8 months actual , but was born 9 weeks early so is 6 months just corrected . I was advised by NICU to wean on actaul age , even though he didn't seem ready. He has been having purees etc all fine.

But I've recently started on finger food and about an hour later he vomits it all up . Anything very pureed stays down , as does whetabix. Mashed banana and avocado. He can't eat anything blended but not pureed he vomits straight away i think its texture. He will eat toast , pin wheels etc no problem at the time but it all comes back up.

Should I be worried or is he just getting used to eating? He does have bad reflux and has carobel. But this has improved over the last 4 months . Other than reflux no health problems .

Any advice very welcome and appreciated!

Weaning made my daughters reflux worse given he's got reflux I'd suspect it's that. Maybe worth a chat with his dr

Thank you. Did it get better eventually, did they do anything ? I'm going to call the Dr Monday .

She was really slow to wean and by the time she was eating 3 meals her reflux was better managed.
She has needed a lot of medication to treat her reflux and its only aged 5 that we have been able to start reducing her reflux medication. She's on a cocktail of 3 medications to manage it
Any teeth coming through? Teething also made my daughters reflux get a lot worse

What happens if you do a mix say a puree with toast on the side? Or if you give a drink after the food?

Is he eating too much? If you’re offering finger food, I’d be doing like 1 piece of pasta or one bit of banana and stop. It’s about practicing bringing food to the mouth, moving it around and swallowing, not about getting a full meal in him. I would feed very small amounts only and see how that goes. If it’s still an issue after a few weeks, I’d have a chat to the GP/HV. I think it’s unusual, yes, but this happened with mine when they ate too much too fast.

@Superscientist No teeth coming through. He seems to bring it up regardless of if he has a bit of puree with it or its on its own. It doesn't seem to bother him at all, and he's happy not in pain etc .

@mindutopia Definitely not eating to much he done it this morning after a tiny bit of toast brought it up about 30 mins , it's any finger foot at all even a bite . The other night he ate a quarter of a pin wheel all came back up .

I'd probably stop giving toast and pinwheels. What other finger food have you tried?
Could you go smaller? We did things like puree covered macaroni when we were weaning. It was an easy way of starting to introduce texture.

Thank you , I will give this a try really appreciate it. I have tried normal pasta , banana (he can have this mashed but when in finger form it comes back up ). I've tried broccoli and some other veg. He's fine pureed but when it's finger food it comes up , he does chew it .

We've only recently started finger food as he was so prem , Dr's advised puree until he was closer to actual age.
