Change to cows milk and night wakenings

Hi- I have just moved my 12 month old son from formula to cows milk. I did this gradually and as we were at 4oz cows milk 4oz formula he has started waking in the night, usually around 2ish. He takes almost an 8oz bottle of milk in the night and then goes back to sleep.

He hasn't woken in the night for months with the exception of a few nights here and there when teething or
unwell.

Has this happened to anyone else following the switch to cows milk? Is it less filling than formula or is this a regression. It's been a week now and I just don't know how to deal with it. Any assistance much appreciated.

try giving him supper, it might fill him for longer

The other possibility is that your DS needs a slightly later bedtime. At 13 months, mine surprised me by just suddenly needing less sleep. We had split nights until we moved bedtime back half an hour (don't ask me why it makes such a difference!).

I can also recommend porridge with peanut butter before bed to keep them going through the night.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the milk, but probably a lot to do with a mix of the heat and the fact that sleep often goes tits up at 12 months.

That said, if all you’re having is one wake up and he goes back to sleep straight after, then I’d give him the milk and get back to sleep. He will stop waking when he doesn’t need to.
