hi all! As you can see by the title, my DD is a small gal! I was just wondering if her being so small (she looks 7 months to me lol) is anything to be concerned about?

Her weight is completely fine so she isn’t completely dinky but she is definitely small!

So long as she sticks to her lines more or less and her weight isn’t very disproportionate, there is nothing to worry about.

We had lots of medical interventions because of my sons placing on the centile chart but that was because he was below the 1st centile. Being on the 9th centile is very much in the normal range.

CreteBound · 16/07/2025 07:34

She’s bigger than 9 percent of babies. Someone has to sit in that centile! HVs aren’t usually great at explaining this though and think all babies should be on the 50th.

My dd was always on the. 9th centile and at 14 is 5ft, I don't think she'll grow any taller now.

KnickerlessFlannel · 16/07/2025 07:45

As long as their height and weight are going along slightly similar lines then there's nothing to worry about. You don't want a huge difference eg 2nd for length but 75th for weight

fredandphe · 16/07/2025 15:47

Thank you all for helping me understand! I’m only 5’2 so good chance she has taken after me!

Twin DGD was on the 1st percentile for height and weight until about age 11. Doctors never worried because she always stayed steady. At 14 she is catching up with her peers in height but is still slim

DinosandRegrets678 · 16/07/2025 16:07

Is she following her centile or is it a sudden drop?

minnienono · 16/07/2025 16:12

Both mine were small, as long as they are on the chart and staying on their line it is fine

mindutopia · 16/07/2025 16:15

It’s fine as long as she is relatively in proportion. Dd was around 9th centile. She was 2nd or thereabouts at birth. People used to ask me if she was born premature (she wasn’t). Someone has to be at 9th for someone else to be at 50th for someone else to be at 95th, because it’s all based around population averages.

Dh is 6’5 and I am 5’9. And dd is 12 and slightly above average in height compared to her peers now.

Bitzee · 16/07/2025 16:17

Someone has to be the lower percentiles it wouldn’t make sense otherwise! And if you’re petite it makes sense that she is too. So long as she continues to follow her curve I wouldn’t be remotely concerned.

Two small girls here, with small heads too, although both were super fat with rolls as babies. Tiny sumos.

They settled out at teens into two perfectly normal, 5ft 3", slim and healthy, size 6/8 adults.

I'm 5ft 5", so they are smaller than me, but both their grandmothers were small, so genetics in there somewhere. All the girls on both sides of the family are small.
