I've found an ideal song for rocking baby to sleep. Anyone else have one?

I rock my baby to sleep to music and I've gradually come round to using just this one perfect song, '74-'75 by The Connells. It's a soothing melody and soothing voice but has a drum beat that's a perfect speed for rocking and doesn't change tempo. I like songs with a beat rather than just lullabies because they're better at distracting him from crying. Also all the transitions in the song are smooth - there are so many songs that are perfect in every other way but have a big pause or clash of drums somewhere. I was wondering if anyone else has a perfect baby sleep song?

I love this song OP so I’ve just been hit by a huge wave of nostalgia with you mentioning it. I realise I haven’t listened to it in many years. Playing it now ❤️

I always used to sing Peaceful Easy Feeling by the Eagles to my son. Not planned, it just came out one day when he was a baby and it worked!

Ave Maria. She still asks me to sing it and she's 7 now.

Song for Whoever by the Beautiful South 💕

I sang my babies the Skye Boat Song. It has the perfect rocking rhythm. DS10 still sometimes asks for it.

"What shall we do with a drunken sailor" for mine.

5o+ years later, they are quite normal. But that song always worked for them.

Kingsleadhat · 12/07/2025 22:14

Dream a little dream of me and Me and Bobby McGee worked for mine, as well as Morning town Ride (Yes I'm that old!)

SpottyDottie98 · 12/07/2025 22:16

It used to be Twinkle Twinkle Little Star when DS was a baby...until he got old enough to sing along. I used to sing/almost whisper it, and then once he could join in, he started booming it out like Pavarotti and we'd both end up howling with laughter. Which obviously wasn't conducive to sleep. So now it's white noise on the Tonie box 😂

@StMarie4me he was okay till the battery ran out on the little radio 🤣🤣

My little one is 2 weeks old today and, in what I can only describe as the manic panic of a ftm at 3am, I find myself reaching for Mellow Yellow by Donovan.

I literally just song the first verse over and over until the screaming subsides. I must get round to buying the song or learning the other verses...

My Aunt always used this on me and my cousins too!

I used to sing Let’s go fly a kite to my eldest on repeat and it always worked to calm her down and send her off.

BestIsWest · 13/07/2025 18:44

I had a Welsh children’s song for DD and ‘If I had words’ for DS. It was quite sweet when they were a bit older and poorly as they’d want ‘their’ song to be sung to them.
Woe betide me if I sang the song to anyone else as I found out when I sang DS’s song to my baby niece.
