Almost 3 year old only wanting milk due to hot weather

Just seeing if this is normal for his age, my son is 2 and 9 months to be exact, he isn’t eating well in this hot weather at all and just wants milk. He seems to be skipping both breakfast and lunch despite me making it, dinners seem to go down ok as usual. He is asking for bottles more than usual, he is also having naps again which I can understand in this heat. Just a bit worried he isn’t really eating but is still drinking milk. Is this ok just on a temporary basis? I am doing my best to give him fruit etc which is hydrating and cool but he doesn’t seem too interested

I think it’s fine, I can’t eat in the hot weather but will drink something cool and filling like a milkshake or smoothie. Could you try that to get a bit more fuel in him? Or icecream?

Just to say, my son is 17 months so a fair bit younger, but he has been the same today. Not eaten a single proper meal but had more milk x

How are they today @Motherof1and2dogs? My DC only ever did that if they were ill. I can’t remember them doing it in hot weather Flowers

My little one is the same age and hasn't even had much milk. He's eaten a few grapes and apple and cucumber here and there but just has no appetite at all. I can't eat in the heat so it's understandable that they'd be the same

It's not 'normal' (as in, common) for an almost 3yo to have bottles at all, in my experience. But if he still has them and it feeling a bit off I can see why he'd prefer one to sitting down to a meal.

My son’s appetite always disappears in the heat and he just grazes really, but bottles?

Meadowfinch · 22/06/2025 09:34

Plenty of people, adults and children, lose their appetite in hot weather. They don't need much energy but do need extra hydration. He'll be fine. His body knows what he needs.

He shouldn’t be drinking anything from a bottle by now. Offer his drinks from a sippy cup, or similar. Give him plenty to drink but water down the milk. He does need food more than milk.

I apologise for any offence, where none was intended. I wasn’t judging you, I just reacted to what you posted. I thought perhaps you didn’t realise about the bottles.
