Stranger asked for a photo of my baby’s feet

My 9 month old was sitting in her stroller while we were in a cafe when a middle aged men looked at us and very quickly asked if he can take a photo of her feet. She had her feet up on the bar and he said it looks really cute! I didn’t answer for a while than he went on to say that his wife has cancer and he wants to bring joy to her life. He said he would show me the photo. I hid her face with the cover and allowed him to take the photo. He showed it to me and it was indeed just her feet.

then he asked to take a second one from a different perspective! I didn’t answer and he just took it straight away! Again he showed me the photo! he went in again that his wife has cancer which came across as a lie and an excuse to take a photo!

everything was so quick and I didn’t want to come across as mean. I feel terrible and should have said no! For a second I thought it’s just the feet so not. Problem but after I realised how creepy that is!!!!!

he went to sit on another table and was on his phone a lot. Don’t know what he was doing.

does this ever happen to you? What did you do?

People have asked to take pictures of my children before and I've always said no. Never feet though.

The different angles is a strange thing. I used to sell foot pictures in my younger years so any random person wanting to have pictures of feet just makes me think it’s to be used sexually now. Creep

Don’t let strange men take pictures of any part of your child again!

You were uncomfortable so if it happens again say no. Might have been perfectly innocent but it sounds a bit weird. I remember during Covid my daughter would have her dance lessons outside and random strangers would film her.

Erm I have to confess I love when it gets warmer and all the cute little baby feet come out on display! His wanting to take a photo of your child is odd and I probably wouldn't feel comfortable with it either. The problem is now we feel the need to be polite overrides our right to say no. Don't feel bad about feeling caught out, you will know to speak up another time now.
