17 Month Old Won't Let Go Of His Bottle

My 17 month old wakes up around 3am for a bottle of milk. I'm not really fussed about him waking up however he won't let go of his bottle. He will happily drink from any cup or bottle during the day however just before bed and once at night he likes a bottle of milk but will not drink from anything else apart from his tommee tippee bottle that he has had from newborn. Obviously tips have been changed etc.
I have heard a few people say just stop and throw them away so he has no choice but to get used to it. Is this the only best way?

Do you mean he won’t drop the feed or he physically won’t let the bottle go?

why do you need to get rid of it? My two year old still has his at night and it soothes him back off to sleep. My older boy still had one at bedtime til he was about 8! Extreme I know, but he didn’t want let it go, it helped him fall asleep and I couldn’t see the harm. It didn’t do any damage to his teeth as some people suggested.
