Hi everyone, our 21 month DS has been having a high fever starting on Wednesday. Going up to 39-40 but subsides back to normal with nurofen (he hates calpol). He has a runny nose with thick discharge, but otherwise is his normal self when temp is down. We were seen at the GP on Friday as his temp shot up again in between doses and were advised to alternate with calpol as much as we can. Chest was clear, nothing in ears, breathing normal, heart rate a bit raised due to fever, tonsil a bit red. GP prescribed delayed antibiotics just in case. This morning DS still woke up with a fever, 38 degrees. We gave him nurofen but wonder what to do next. Did anyone have experience with such a long lasting fever but ended up not needing antibiotics pls? We'll probably call 111 if his temp goes up again but just want some steering. Thanks a lot!

It's really likely to be a virus, especially if there's a lot of snot. Other than the fever, does your LO seem well in themself?

Thanks! Shortly after I posted, we discovered that he developed rashes on his body. Called 111 and was told by a GP that it's likely Roseola, which explains why he's been mostly normal. Will just need to keep an eye on his temp today so that it doesn't go back up again.
