Please can you recommend any great eczema treatments?

My 18 month old has suffered with eczema since he was born. We’ve had cream from the doctors but it doesn’t really do much. Can anyone recommend any great products? I have tried Aveeno when he was very little but he had an allergic reaction to it so I didn’t try it again. The eczema is mainly on his back and he doesn’t really notice it but obviously it’s not nice to see him suffering with it.

Calendula lotion. I am using the Dr Organic one and it cleared my DD’s eczema.

Thank you! Do you use the baby one or the normal cream?

the baby one. I have tried all other ones on market too but don’t like their texture. The dr organic one isn’t sticky and spreads easily.

Do you know what causes the eczema? For me and my DSis it was Cow’s Milk Protein Flowers

Yep same here.. takes two weeks to get cows milk out of the body.. even if your breastfeeding. So I bathed baby twice a day, lathered him with haldens base every time.. put cup of bleach in bath to stop it getting Infected.( gp told me this) . Coming out of bath, I applied liquid paraffin gel 2 hourly throughout the day.. , cotton baby grow with fleece baby grow over that.. he was like a dry scaly fish that used to scratch.. coming off all dairy was the game changer for us.. he’s grown out of it now.. he’s 12. That was his first year..

Aveeno reactions are more common than people realise, it contains oat proteins which some eczema kids are actually sensitive to despite it being marketed as soothing.

A few things that genuinely help:

  • Strip back everything synthetic touching his skin first. Polyester in clothing, bedding and soft toys is a massive hidden trigger. Switch to 100% organic cotton wherever possible. It made a bigger difference for us than any cream.
  • For products — Childs Farm fragrance free range is gentle. Kokoso coconut oil is brilliant as a simple moisturiser with minimal ingredients.
  • Worth also checking your washing powder, Surcare or Fairy Non Bio fragrance free are the safest options.
  • On the organic cotton point — there is a brand called My Little Monsters that makes 100% organic baby products specifically designed with sensitive skin in mind. Worth looking up if you are going down the organic route.
Hope his skin settles soon, back eczema is so hard to manage.
