Looking for Local Mum Friends in NW2/NW6: Coffee, Chats and Connection for My Wife

Hi everyone,

I’m posting as a husband hoping to help my wife reconnect with the social side of life after a tough start to parenthood. We have a beautiful 7-month-old daughter, but the journey hasn’t been easy. My wife had a difficult pregnancy, and our baby arrived two months early. Because of everything going on at the time, we didn’t get a chance to do NCT or build that early new-parent network.

Before becoming a mum, my wife was incredibly social and outgoing. She loved meeting friends for coffee and lunch, and I know she’d really enjoy that kind of connection again, especially with other mums who have young children. She’s been getting out more lately, usually with me and the baby, but hasn’t yet found a group of local mums to spend time with on her own.

We’re based near Willesden Green and Queen’s Park (NW2/NW6) and are hoping to find any informal meet-ups, WhatsApp chats or coffee groups in the area. If there’s a group you’re part of or one you know about, I’d really appreciate you pointing us in the right direction or dropping a reply here.

With the weather getting better, I know this could really lift her spirits and help her feel more like herself again.

Thank you so much
A hopeful husband and dad

I hope you get some responses. But you might have more luck using one of the apps designed for meeting other mums. The two I know are peanut and MumsMeetup.

It’s so hard at the beginning. I also didn’t have an NCT group but met some friends at an NHS new mums group. It does get better x

Have you googled or looked on local social media for mum and baby groups? I met loads of other mums that way. Check out local libraries as they tend to host things like this.

I second mum and baby group, that’s where she’ll meet people.. especially near Queen’s Park where there’s so many young families.

I’ve met the best group of mum friends through pregnancy yoga, I made an effort to chat to them and eventually asked if anyone would like to meet for a coffee. After a few meet ups we’d formed enough of a bond for the friendship to continue after having babies. We went along to mum and baby yoga for a term but now we meet weekly, sometimes for a walk too, and chat on WhatsApp. It’s been great.

It’s so lovely that you are trying to help your wife as I really know how much I’ve needed these new friends, going through the same as me at the same time.

the other thing that makes a difference is we’re all fairly local - within half an hour of each other. We went to a NCT style class which was on the other side of the city and it just felt too difficult to make meaningful friendships with them.

Good Luck, find a few baby groups and go from there. A post on a local facebook group might help you find some, maybe a bit more casual to say you’re looking to find some new mum and baby groups to attend and could anyone suggest any. You will probably find some friendly mums will respond and welcome your wife into the fold. It’s always nice to have someone to look out for when you first go along to a group.

I just want to say what a beautifully lovely thing to do for your wife. Hopefully she's on board too. If she's got/had postnatal depression, anxiety or PTSD (just mentioning with prem baby) there are often specific support groups for this too. I found I bonded with people who weren't having the 'perfect' experience post birth and were happy to say how shit it was at times!!!
