Amount of expressed milk to give in a bottle?

Hello, just looking for a general idea of how much expressed breastmilk people give their babies? From what I've seen online so far, suggested amounts seem to be around 4-6oz (my baby is 3 months old). Baby only has a bottle if she is being cared for by a relative and generally she's been having 4-5oz. A relative looked after her recently and I felt there was an underlying suggestion that I wasn't giving her enough. It sounds like LO drank far too fast which I know can stop them recognising being full (we are yet to discuss pace feeding) so just want to get an idea of what the norm is for most?

Babies come in different shapes and sizes, if your midwife doesn't have an issue with your baby's weight or growth then I wouldn't be too concerned about "normal"

My DS fed little and often, but gained weight/grew like he should.

Typically, BF babies will drink 100-150ml in a session.

It’s unusual for it to be more, because breastmilk changes over time, so a BF six month old drinks the same volume of milk in 24hrs as a six week old - other wise your boobs would keep getting bigger and bigger 😄
That’s different to what happens with formula, where quantities do increase - your relative may well be coming from that baseline, and not know that it isn’t the case for BF babes.

Is the relative used to FF babies? BF babies simply don’t need the huge volumes of milk that a FF baby requires. As stated by a PP a BF baby will take roughly the same amount of milk at 6 months as they do at 6 weeks which is 25 Floz in 24 hours.

So if baby hasn’t fed for 3 hours, 3 to 4 floz is a good feed for them.

Many mothers wonder how much expressed breastmilk they need to have available if they are away from baby. In exclusively breastfed babies, milk intake increases quickly during the first few weeks of life, then stays about the same between one and six...

Thanks all, I'm doing pretty much what has been suggested , which is reassuring. Relative is used to FF so I think maybe a bit of education is needed to help them understand the differences.

Generally you feed on demand with formula feeding too. My daughter was still taking small amounts at that age. With formula you tend to put slightly more than you think they will drink and let them take how much they want. Its so important to pace feed so they are controlling how much milk they take. I did the same with expressed milk but was a bit more cautious with how much I put in the bottle so it didn't get wasted (and then put a bit mor ein if she still seemed hungry at the end of the bottle).
