Where to buy clothes for boys with a skinny waist

Rose84sr · 11/03/2025 20:20

My son is almost 5, and he is naturally very skinny around the bum and waist, but with normal height for his age, if not a little taller than average.

I find it tricky to get trousers that fit him around the waist, but are long enough in the leg and not swinging around his ankles! Does anyone know a good brand/shop for this kind of skinny waist/long leg fit? I've had some luck with M&S Skinny Fit for school trousers, but jeans and joggers is tricky!

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks!

Asda, tu, h and m - all do drawstring joggers. My boy is very similar.

Oh and mine wears leggings too because they tend to fit!

As well as the shops that @Eileen101 has suggested, Next do a lot with adjustable waists too.

The Scandinavian brands tend to be good for tall slim children eg H&M, Lindex and Polarn O Pyret in order of increasing cost.

I have one of these. Even drawstring trousers aren't enough. The only success I've had is with the trousers with adjustable waistbands. DS has two skinny fit pairs from H&M which are on the tightest the elastic will go internally and they stay up. We've had the most success with Asda tracksuit bottoms but they have to be skinny ones.

Joggers are a no go til you hit XS adult sizes.l, in our experience.

H&M adjustable waists for jeans (and chinos). M&S for school trousers, as you've discovered.

Leggings would be great if there was any chance of them lasting more than 5 seconds. DS has mangled the knees of school trousers with the reinforced knees so not even bothering with leggings.

H&M is my go to, Primark can work too.

Lindex leggings/joggies/trousers/pyjama bottoms are all made with elastic and buttons on the inside of the waistbands. The waistband is lovely and smooth instead of thick and bulky. It's a much neater way to adjust the waist than those big bulky drawstrings. I always think they look so uncomfortable.
