My baby fell out of bed!!!!

She is 4.5 months and we use a NextToMe crib next to my bed. I have the side down always and I have it pushed up to my bed as close as it will go so I can have my hand in her if she needs soothing.

Anyway I woke up to a thud at 4am and she'd fallen between the crib and the bed.

Thankfully she was completely fine as landed on a rug but it's made me panic now...

Am I using it wrong ??!!

Ah gosh I'm so sorry, what a fright you must have gotten😓 Maybe no harm getting doctor to have a quick look at her, just for peace of mind. Have a check of the straps under your mattress and make sure they're clicked in place and pulled as tightly as they can go. If they're done up tight it shouldn't be able to move away from your bed to create a gap so maybe they're loose? That's all I can think of x

If using as a bedside crib you’re definitely using it wrong as there shouldn’t be any gap at all as it would be an entrapment risk. Have you not got it fixed to the bed properly?

Does your next to me cribs have tethers so you can tie it against the bed to prevent this? I think most do. I think ours does but we just use it with the side up.

You said you have it pushed up against the bed, but is it fixed to the bed? If not a gap will very easily occur overnight while you’re moving around in your sleep.

That would be enough for me to just put the side up and lean over. How scary

Batbatbatty · 15/02/2025 14:41

Isn't it fixed to your bed?

FrogsLoveRain · 15/02/2025 14:48

OP, sounds like it was better for her to fall through to the floor rather than getting wedged between the crib and your bed!

Personally, after this, I'd stop using it.

Hope you're both OK.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/02/2025 15:00

Yep you’ve used it wrong, have you looked into how you are suppose to use it? I’d still get her checked out as she’s only small but I’m sure she will be fine. And zip the side up, these beds can be dangerous if not used correctly

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 15/02/2025 15:01

Definitely check the straps to your bed are fixed correctly and haven't come loose.

MarioLink · 15/02/2025 16:58

There should be no gap, it should be attached tightly to the bed. If she fell onto carpet she will probably be fine but it could have been much worse if she'd got trapped between the crib and bed.
