Room is 18.6 - what should I put my baby to sleep in?

Hey guys,

As a second time parent, I thought I'd have this down and I really really don't!
My first baby was a summer baby and this one is a winter and dressing at night is stressful - first night at home.

The groegg/room temp says 18.6 - I have her in a short sleeve vest, babygrow and a 2.5tog tommee tippee swaddlebag.

According to the groegg chart it should be a long sleeve vest and swaddlebag but that's what my 19 month daughter is wearing so I figured a newborn would need one more layer.

Any advice or reassurence much appeciated

Mine is currently in long sleeve vest, baby grow snd 2.5 bag (not swaddle so arms out) so sounds similar! I’m always a layer more than the chart

Thank you! I can't wait till I know if she is a run hot or cold baby!

I’m working on this basis; room is 19° and baby is wearing vest, sleep suit and Love to Dream sleeping bag. The tip of her nose and feet are cool to the touch but core is warm which I think makes her about right!

Thank you! We ended up taking her temp which said I wouldn't do overly this time round as it makes you paranoid - that lasted not even a night! But it was higher than I expected at 37.3 even 37.4. My oldest daughter runs cold so never gets to this temp unless heading towards a fever. Ended up calling maternity and said it could just be we have a warmer baby this time round but to keep an eye. Trying babygrow and 1 tog now but room may have got warmer.

Thank you everyone!

my baby is wearing just long sleeve babygrow and 2.5 tog bag, she doesn’t like to get too warm. My HV said it’s always better to air on the the side of cooler if unsure. She said a cold baby will cry and let you know you need to give them more but a hot baby won’t. Not a nice phrase but she said cold babies cry and hot babies die and it’s stuck with me.
