Siblings sharing a bath

Hi folks,

I'd like some stories on siblings sharing baths.

What age did you stop?

I have a girl and a boy and they share bath and they love it, but I wonder at what age it becomes better for them to be separate.

Any advice or input would be welcome 🤓

Thanks

8 girl and 6 boy and both still sharing happily. Sometimes shower but while they’re happy to continue we will do so.

Thanks so much everyone for your feedback 😎.

I was afraid to say they are 5 & 3 in case folk were aghast 😱, but it seems that's still in the realm of 'normal'.

I think it will phase out as 5yr old is at school now and leaving 3yr old behind a bit. But for now we'll keep going with it as they love splashing together.

Everything is such a balance! Thanks again for your experiences 🛁👧👦

Same sex, but 5&7 and they love sharing a bath. I can't see them stopping any time soon, especially as our shower is an absolute pain.

Logoplanter · 17/01/2025 19:11

My two (boy/girl) stopped sharing regularly around 6 and 4 I'd guess. We probably started encouraging showers for the older one around that age just for ease for us which may have impacted it.

DD (11) still regularly jumps in the shower with me though, by her choice. 🤷

Just do what they are comfortable with as it'll end naturally in any event.

Mine are 8 and 5 and still share, we are keeping an eye out for when the older (boy) starts to feel self conscious but not yet.

Mine are 5 and almost 2 and they shower together sometimes - I have a walk in shower so it's just more convenient.

You've got years yet!

Mine are opposite sex and we're definitely still doing it at 8&10. It's slowly moved towards showers now. Although they still walk around naked and appear largely unconcerned about privacy.

God mine sometimes want to squeeze in altogether - 9, 7 and 2. Today 7 year old really wanted a long bath on his own so that’s respected, goes without saying.

12&10 same sex still share occasionally

12 is a bit old, they are at high school they should be bathing alone.

elliejjtiny · 18/01/2025 12:42

My dc are all boys but we started bathing them separately when they started getting squashed in together or when they were splashing each other so much it was more civilised to bath them separately.

TheChosenTwo · 18/01/2025 12:45

Dds were 6 and 7 when the youngest was born and they loved having a bath with their tiny baby brother but it fizzled out after a few months and the older ones started to prefer bathing on their own.

WonderingWanda · 18/01/2025 12:46

I hope estly can't remember but our bath isn't very big so we quickly established that one would go first and the second would jump in their water. At some point even that stopped and they started showering.

GRCP · 18/01/2025 13:10

DD8 and DS6, just getting to the point where DD doesn't want to share

DazedAndConfused321 · 18/01/2025 13:42

I have 5 under 8, and all of them love sharing. They don't all fit in together though so the eldest two are phasing it out and having showers. I think it's lovely, they play in the garden pool in the summer nude so it's no big deal here

doihaveacase · 18/01/2025 14:26

My 5yo b/g twins still share a bath and love it. Their 7o brother goes in on his own mainly due to space! But they all are in and out of the bathroom regardless of which of them is in the bath, and seem completely unfazed. I think in the next few years the sharing will gradually phase out.

Notadoctor123 · 18/01/2025 15:20

@TartanCulshie Around 7/8 is when early changes of puberty may be happening and also curiousity around other peoples bodies can increase…..so if it’s an older boy ,then I would self-impose separate baths by that age if they haven’t asked to be separate by then.

Rocknrollstar · 18/01/2025 15:44

Gosh. DS and DD shared a bath for years till they were probably 11 and 8 or even older. Then they decided it was uncomfortable to be in the bath together so the other one would sit on the floor next to the bath. We never thought anything of it, neither did they.

TartanCulshie · 18/01/2025 18:13

It's so nice to read we're not the only ones!

My old boss built a house where each kid had their own en suite and made it seem as if that was normal so I've been doubting things. But they are splashing away together as I type (with their dad minding - they're not left alone!)
